Above & Beyond Orientation - UM Upper Chesapeake Medical Center
Thank you for volunteering to participate in this critical program. The information on this page will ensure you are prepared for your first One UMMS shift. Please review the Orientation Materials and Logistical Details carefully before arriving onsite.
Orientation Materials
All team members volunteering for a One UMMS shift must complete an orientation that includes general safety and specific job guidelines. Please complete this training before arriving onsite for your first shift. You will only need to do this once, before your first shift.

Logistical Details
You have signed up for a One UMMS shift at UM Upper Chesapeake Medical Center. The information below is specific to that location. If you sign up for additional shifts at other locations, you will be provided with new logistical details.

Casual, professional attire. Please wear comfortable clothing that allows for movement. Jeans are not permitted but sneakers are fine. All shoes must have closed toes and closed heels (no sandals). Please also be sure to wear your UMMS badge.
Parking & Meet-Up
UM Upper Chesapeake Medical Center is located at 500 Upper Chesapeake Drive, Bel Air, MD 21014. Once you arrive, please park in the Team Member parking lot. Please see our campus map for reference. There is no charge for parking.
Check in with Security in the lobby front desk and ask for directions to the Volunteer Services Department.
Arrival Time
Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your shift to allow time to park and report to the Volunteer Services Department.
PPE
You will be provided with a KN95 mask at the volunteer site. If the role warrants additional protection (based on assignment and UMMS policy) you will be provided with and fit tested for a N95. If you would like to have further discussion regarding your masking needs, please call us at 443-462-3982 or email EHS-Corporate@umm.edu prior to your shift. If you have questions or need a replacement mask while onsite, please don't hesitate to reach out to someone on your unit.
Please be sure to review all orientation materials before arriving on site. We cover PPE training and demonstrations during the one-hour eLearning module you are required to participate in before your first shift.
Timekeeping
We are not currently on the Kronos system. Because of this, hourly team members volunteering at an Upper Chesapeake facility will need to send your supervisor an email at the time you arrive/begin working and again at the end of the shift/when you are leaving. Please also include Deb Bedard in the email so she can validate your time with your supervisor.
Meals
You are welcome to get food from our cafeteria or bring food with you. Each unit has a microwave for reheating. You may eat in your unit's staff lounge, the cafeteria, or conference rooms designated for meal breaks. Please do not eat with others. Team members must maintain social distancing when eating/unmasked.
