UMMS eConsult Program

The UMMS eConsult Program enables our providers to tap into clinical expertise from across UMMS to deliver the best care to patients regardless of their physical location within the System. Providers connect via video chat through their devices in real time with another specialist to consult on a case. The UMMS eConsult Programs provides many benefits to both the provider and patient, including:

  • Accessing clinical expertise across the system without patient transport
  • Reducing wait time
  • Reducing risk of exposure
  • Reducing use of PPE

The eConsult program provides virtual consultation between on-call specialist and hospitalized patient via video conferencing over a secure connection.

The program is Epic based, so anyone in UMMS is accessible as long as they have an Epic account to receive specialty advice for services including:

  • Acute Care Emergency Surgery (ACES)
  • Cardiology
  • Nephrology
  • Pulmonology
  • Soft Tissue Surgery.

In order to access UMMS eConsult, the provider must enable their device through IT. For more information for what is needed to access UMMS eConsult, please click here.

Once completed, they'll be able to connect with out experts in real time to discuss best care options for their patient. Specialists should allow at least 1-hour notice to allow nurse time to set up device with Zoom meeting in patient room
