The Professional Advancement Model (PAM) is designed to recognize and reward nurses based on their professional contributions to the practice and profession of nursing. The model focuses on the continuing professional growth and development of the nurse with emphasis on involvement at the unit level and beyond in the following four areas:
- Professional nursing practice
- Professional development
- Quality, safety, research
- Operational leadership
PAM Application Process
Over the past several months, Nursing & Patient Care Services (NPCS) colleagues have focused on creating a streamlined and inclusive process to expand opportunities for professional development. NPCS leaders, together with clinical nurses, have worked together to align our Professional Advancement Model (PAM) across the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS). With the support of the Chief Nursing Officer Council, this team evaluated each member organization’s PAM application process and role requirements, with the goal of standardizing these across the System.
These recommendations for change highlight our continued dedication to helping nurses across UMMS nurture, grow and flourish in both their personal and professional lives. Review the infographic and steps listed below for an overview of the updated application process.
