UMMS Antibiotic (Antimicrobial) Stewardship Committee

The University of Maryland Medical System’s Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee was established to improve the quality of patient care and to optimize clinical outcomes related to infectious diseases across the Medical System. This is the first step in developing a centralized structure for Pharmacy and Therapeutics.

This committee plays a vital role in our clinical performance improvement initiative and in fact impacts more than half of our current UMMS clinical initiatives.

To that end, guidelines developed by infectious disease experts across UMMS provide information to assist all practitioners in selecting optimal antibiotic therapy for our patients. The guidelines are based on current literature, including national guidelines, microbiologic data from UMMC, and UMMC faculty expert opinion.
