FAQs
Below are some of the frequently asked questions about the UMMS Staffing Center.
How do I cancel or reschedule my shift?
If you have questions or need to cancel/reschedule your shift, please call the UMMS Staffing Center at 667-233-5900 during normal business hours (daily, 6:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.). If you need to cancel/reschedule your shift after normal business hours, please reach out to the unit contact provided in your confirmation email.
Will I be able to choose which hospital and role I am assigned to?
You will be able to sign up for a shift via the scheduling link. All of our member hospitals have shifts that need to be filled.
What kind of jobs will I be asked to do?
Several non-clinical roles have been identified. You will be able to sign up for a shift using the scheduling link. Examples include:
- Restocking supplies
- Light housekeeping in patient rooms
- Serving food to patients
- Running errands
Will I be paid for the time spent in a One UMMS role?
If you are paid by the hour and your manager gives you approval to spend some of your work time in a One UMMS role, you will be paid as you normally would. At this time, hourly team members should not volunteer for One UMMS shifts outside of their scheduled work hours. If you are salaried, you will not receive additional pay.
Will I be expected to participate in direct patient care?
No. All clinical roles are filled separately through the UMMS Staffing Center. We will not ask anyone to perform a role they are not qualified to fill.
Will I be working closely with COVID-19 patients?
These are non-clinical roles. As such, you will not be asked to participate in direct patient care but may be in proximity with patients (including those who are COVID-19+ or under investigation for COVID-19). Inpatient cases of COVID-19 have declined significantly; however, your safety is always our top priority. We will continue to follow the System's infection prevention guidance in all facilities and will provide you with the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to wear during your shift. We will also ensure you have the necessary infection prevention training so you are able to work safely in these spaces, just as we do with our clinical staff. You will not be required to do anything you are uncomfortable doing.
What kind of PPE will I be provided?
You will be provided with the necessary PPE based on your assignment and on UMMS's recommended infection prevention measures in place at the time you volunteer. If you would like to have further discussion regarding your masking needs, please call us at 443-462-3982 or email EHS-Corporate@umm.edu prior to your shift. If you have questions or need a replacement mask while on site, please don't hesitate to reach out to someone on your unit.
Please be sure to review all orientation materials before arriving on site. We cover PPE training and demonstrations during the one-hour eLearning module you are required to participate in before your first shift.
What about logistics like dress code and parking?
These details will vary by hospital and will be shared with you via confirmation email once you have signed up for your shift.
Where and how do I clock in (hourly team members only)?
Because you may not have badge access in the hospital where you've signed up to volunteer, you will be asked to sign into a Kronos clock via a "pin punch." To do this, you will need your Badge Number. This is different from your Employee ID. If you're not sure what your Badge Number is, please check with your manager. When you arrive on site for your shift, a hospital representative will show you how and where to clock in.
