The Maryland Medicine Comprehensive Insurance Program (MMCIP), frequently referred to as the Office of Risk Management, was established in 1985 as a joint venture between the University of Maryland Medical System Corporation (UMMS) and University of Maryland Faculty Physicians, Inc. (FPI).  The primary purpose was to provide professional liability insurance coverage for most of the professional employees engaged in rendering healthcare services at UMMS and in the FPI faculty practice plans.

MMCIP provides broad based centralized insurance, claims, and risk management services to the hospitals comprising the University of Maryland Medical System Corporation.
