Check back every day for a new Compliance Week activity!
Monday, November 7:
As UMMS embarks on the journey to become a High Reliability Organization and adopt new core values, Corporate Compliance is dedicated to leading the way. Transparency, accountability and responsiveness are key to our success.
Using the fundamental elements of an effective compliance program as the foundation to pave the way to excellence, zero harm means being proactive in minimizing risk to the organization through our Privacy, Audit and Monitoring, and Conflict of Interest programs. Protecting patient data, ensuring accurate claim submission through ongoing audit and monitoring, and enabling patients to make informed decisions about their treatment by disclosing potential conflicts of interest contribute to the framework of building an organization of high reliability and effectiveness.
As we celebrate Corporate Compliance week, we challenge each other to think, plan and act differently to shape our culture and operations as we design processes that promote consistency and predictability. Compliance is a team effort, and we all need to do our part. It all starts with knowing and following our UMMS Standards of Business Conduct, and reporting potential compliance issues when you see them, which you can do confidentially. Doing so helps all of us, and UMMS as well.
We encourage everyone to check out our compliance week site to learn more about ways to protect yourself, your colleagues and our patients. We also created several fun activities that will both increase your compliance IQ and make you eligible to win some cool prizes. The activities include crossword puzzles with prizes and educational videos.
Thank you in advance for your help and support. Together, our efforts to act with integrity, perform ethically and meet compliance requirements allow us to provide better health care with zero harm and to make UMMS better by living our values of compassion, discovery, excellence, diversity and integrity.
Sincerely,
Lisa Adkins, RN, JD
UMMS SVP, Chief Compliance, Audit and Privacy Officer
