Language of Caring
Welcome to the UM Urgent Care Language of Caring page.
What is Language of Caring?
It is an evidence based skill-building program that teaches healthcare professionals how to strengthen and use skills that communicate caring to each other and the people they serve.
Who is Expected to Adopt these Habits?
All staff are expected to adopt these habits and incorporate them in their daily communications. Each team member will go through Language of Caring training during their New Team Member Orientation (NTO). This training will incorporate Language of Caring Interactive Skill Modules. These skill modules are as follows:
- Heart-Head-Heart
- The Practice of Presence
- Acknowledging Feelings
- Showing Caring Nonverbally
- Explaining Positive Intent
- The Blameless Apologies
- The Gift of Appreciation
- Say it Again with HEART
- Language of Caring: From Good to GREAT
To help reinforce these skill modules, a monthly Language of Caring Habit Builder email will be sent from the Learning and Development Specialist.
Why Should We Adopt these Communication Skills?
- We promote the healing process by reducing anxiety in our patients
- We build trust, cooperation and hope
- We encourage patients to actively partner with us in their care
- We connect with people as individuals
- Increases the likelihood for the best possible medical outcomes
