Vaccine Guidance for Patients and Providers
In keeping with the state’s guidance, the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) will expand its vaccination effort to individuals who qualify under Phase 1b on Monday, January 18, 2021. This will include hospitalized patients who are well enough to receive the vaccine and fall within one of the following groups:
- People 75 years or older
- People who live in congregate facilities such as assisted or senior living, or behavioral health group homes
- Essential workers who fall within this category, including K-12 teachers, education support staff and child care providers
An interdisciplinary team of experts within UMMS has developed a process for inpatient vaccination which includes patient screening and consent, and workflows for Epic, pharmacy, providers and nurses. This process has been outlined in an educational PowerPoint for providers and nurses UMMS-U. This education will also be made available to UMMS vaccination and operations leads, as well as all CMOs and CNOs. It is important to familiarize yourselves with these resources and the process for vaccinating UMMS patients.
The inpatient vaccination process will be live in Epic on Wednesday, January 20 at 9:00 a.m. At that time, clinical staff will be able to screen inpatients for COVID-19 vaccination. Patients who receive their first vaccine dose while hospitalized will be scheduled at one of our vaccination clinics to receive their second dose.
