Upcoming COVID19 Vaccination Deadlines
July 15, 2021
As we navigate the changing nature of COVID-19, we are constantly learning more about the virus and its variants as the landscape continues to evolve. Last week, we shared some important and sobering statistics about COVID-19 cases in our state last month – most notably that 100 percent of COVID-19 deaths occurred among those who are unvaccinated. And as we learn more about the highly transmissible Delta variant, the evidence is clear that vaccination is essential to our ability to stop further spread of this variant that is also impacting young people in ways other variants have not.
Heading into the fall, the course of the pandemic will depend largely on the choices we make. We have the tools to end COVID-19, the most powerful of those being vaccination. Getting the COVID-19 vaccine now will keep you and those around you protected and reduce the likelihood of another surge – one that is likely to be compounded by other illnesses like the flu and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), which we are already seeing a rise in this summer.
Patient safety is a cornerstone of the University of Maryland Medical System’s (UMMS) mission, and we cannot live up to our responsibility to those in our care and in our communities without taking the necessary steps to keep ourselves and others safe. That’s why we are implementing our System-wide COVID-19 Vaccine Participation Mandate policy and encouraging each of you to get the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible. Getting vaccinated is the best way to protect ourselves and those around us.
We are quickly approaching the September 1 deadline to complete the vaccination series. Those who remain unvaccinated for any reason will be required to participate in serial testing, beginning Tuesday, September 7.
In preparation for the upcoming vaccination deadline, some important reminders:
Get Vaccinated
If you have not yet done so, make an appointment to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
- There are some quickly approaching deadlines for those receiving a two-dose vaccine to complete the vaccination series by September 1:
- Wednesday, August 4: last day to get first dose of Moderna to meet deadline
- Wednesday, August 11: last day to get first dose of Pfizer to meet deadline
- Keep in mind that your local hospital’s employee vaccination clinic is operating on a more limited schedule. Plan ahead and make your appointment now to avoid any issues or delays.
- Anyone who has received only one dose of a two-dose vaccine by the September 1 deadline will be required to participate in serial testing until the vaccination series is complete, and your vaccination status is updated in our system.
Submit Proof of Vaccination
If you were already vaccinated, submit proof of vaccination as soon as possible through umms.org/vaxreporting (note, if you are using Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge, the form may not display; please use a different browser, such as Google Chrome, Safari or Firefox).
- If you are receiving a two-dose vaccine, do not submit your documentation until you have completed the series.
- Once Employee Health reviews your documentation, you will receive notification to the email address provided when you submitted the form. Keep in mind, it takes a number of days for us to update our records, depending on volume.
- If you misplaced your COVID-19 vaccine card, please visit umms.org/vaxcard for information about how to get a replacement card through Maryland MyIR.
- Contact your local Employee Health department if you have any questions or concerns about your vaccination status in Lawson.
