Clinical Informatics Shared Services promotes understanding, application and integration, of information technology in healthcare settings. The Clinical Informatics Team has an in-depth understanding of the electronic health record (EHR) and Epic Portfolio system and serves as a bridge between Information Systems & Technology (IS&T) and Patient Care Services. Clinical Informatics works collaboratively with key stakeholders to facilitate communication, evaluate interface with clinical workflows, testing and validation of design build and providing associated training by associated with new requests, system changes, and routine updates of the electronic health record.
KEY GOALS & OBJECTIVES
- Serve as a strong voice for clinicians and hospital operations in the development, training, and implementation of the EHR.
- Remain closely connected to the clinical and business practices of the medical system hospitals.
- Serve as an expert resource in the use and functionality of the EHR to allow the development of creative solutions for the challenges facing our medical system.
- To promote the development of a standard enterprise EHR that based on best practice, and support adoption of the same.
DIVISIONS
Clinical Informatics Shared Services is comprised of three divisions:
End User Training and Support – This team is located at University of Maryland Medical Center University Campus to assist with education, and ongoing end-user support for the inpatient areas. The help desk continues to respond to security, equipment, software and all ambulatory issues. Ongoing responsibilities include:
- End-user support
- Classroom and just-in-time training
- Lead and participate in special projects related to organizational initiatives
- This team does not support Radiant, Williow, and PathNet
Product Development & Implementation – This team is located at various hospitals throughout the system including, UMMC Downtown, UM Midtown, SJMC, and BWMC. They are responsible for managing all requests for optimization, navigating them through the approval process, build validation, and roll out communication. They also act as a second level of support to the end-users. Ongoing responsibilities include:
- Product development
- Workflow analysis
- Second tier end-user support
- Accreditation support
- Re-education and just-in-time training content development
- Lead and coordinate governance groups
- Lead and participate in new implementation
- Lead and participate in EHR focused projects
Training Development – This team is located in our Elkridge Landing location in Linthicum. They are tasked with designing Epic Portfolio Curriculum as well as building and maintaining training environments. They are also responsible for product development assignments and act as a second tier of support to the end-users. Ongoing responsibilities include:
- Training curriculum design
- Product development
- Workflow analysis
- Second tier end-user support
- Training accreditation support
- Training environment build and maintenance
