COVID-19 is a rapidly evolving situation; given that, we want to keep you, our UMMS employees and medical staff, as informed as possible. We will continue to send regular updates, as necessary. - UMMS is instituting a system-wide Strict Patient Safety Policy by 3:00 pm today, March 20. No visitors will be permitted, except under specific and limited circumstances, in order to protect our employees, physicians and patients and their families. See Policy and FAQs.
- It is incredibly important to properly use and conserve personal protective equipment (PPE) in order to fully protect our staff. Please take a moment to review both the guidance for extended use and reuse of PPE and FAQ.
- Maryland Governor Larry Hogan made several additional announcements regarding the state’s response at a press conference yesterday: gatherings are limited to no more than 10 people and public transportation is operating on reduced schedules for use only by essential personnel, such as health care providers.
- It is essential that all staff follow IS&T security policies at all times to protect patient Protected Health Information (PHI)/ Personally Identifiable Information (PII)). Emailing PHI/PII to your personal email or saving it to your personal computer is a violation of UMMS corporate policy. Review the Teleworking FAQ for all information on protecting patient privacy while working remotely, and contact your supervisor with any questions or problems. Good to Know
- UMMS launched a 24/7 free UMMS Nurse Triage Call Line for the public specifically dedicated to COVID-19 questions. To help us better manage the high volume of calls, employees should continue to contact Employee Health and Infection Prevention.
- UMMS/UMB, in coordination with the Johns Hopkins Health System, announced the cancellation of all elective surgeries and routine, non urgent appointments at all UMMS medical facilities for two weeks.
