Many people suffer from chronic wounds that can cause a variety of issues and affect their quality of life.

At the Center for Wound Care, we treat the whole person, not just the wound. Our team of compassionate, wound-certified nurses and physicians offers the latest, innovative wound care therapies. They work with our patients' primary care and sub-specialist doctors to address any underlying medical conditions that may be contributing to the wound.

Several factors can affect how quickly a wound heals. Diabetes, weight gain, heart disease, poor circulation, autoimmune reasons and medications are just a few reasons a wound can be slow to heal. And when a wound is not healing, it can become infected.

When to Contact Your Physician

Contact your physician if:

  • Your wound is getting larger or deeper
  • You notice increased pain or drainage color
  • The skin around your wound is red, warm or swollen
  • You develop fever or chills
  • Your wound does not begin to show sign of healing within 2-4 weeks

Oftentimes, people with diabetes may develop wounds that are slow to heal or that never heal. But a person who manages his/her diabetes well, can greatly reduce the risk of developing a serious infection and other complications.
