Radiation Oncology Research
Our Department of Radiation Oncology is a national leader in translational research in radiation therapy. This strong research program has led to UMGCCC being among a select group of only four cancer centers in the country to have a Master Research Agreement with Varian Medical Systems, the market leader in the development of medical technology.
Our department is one of the top 10 radiation oncology departments in the country in the amount of federal funding it receives for cutting-edge research.
Ongoing areas of research activity include the use of radiation as a systemic treatment agent, brachytherapy, hyperthermia, neuro-oncology, stereotaxis, conformal therapy, 3-D treatment planning, CT simulation, microcirculation of tumors, tumor microenvironment, molecular oncobiology and fractionation schemes.
