Blood Drives

Important Notice: If you have cared for, lived with or had close contact with an individual diagnosed with or suspected of having COVID-19 in the past 28 days, please wait at least 28 days after your last contact with the person before donating blood.
Thank you for your understanding.
Each year, UM SJMC holds multiple blood drives onsite and offsite so that you can support our medical community.
During this pandemic, it has been challenging for the Red Cross to receive donations.
In order to help our community and patients in need, we will be holding multiple community blood drives.
Blood Drive Dates
- Friday, August 20, 7:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.
- Thursday, November 11, 7:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.
- Friday, December 10, 7:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.
At this time, the Red Cross will not accept walk-ins for the safety of their staff and all donors. Rapid Pass must be completed on the day of your appointment, prior to your arrival. You will receive an email with instructions prior to the drive.
Changes in Donor Eligibility
Donors previously deferred for use of bovine insulin, or donors who have lived in England or other European countries between 1980 and 1996 for more than three months are now eligible to donate.
Location
These blood drives will be held in the Irwin Center, which is a separate building from our hospital.
Thank you for your understanding.
There are many reasons to give blood — someone in the U.S. needs blood every two seconds, and one donation can save up to three lives — but really, it is the right thing to do, and you will walk a little taller each time you donate.
At UM SJMC, we use more than 4,900 units of blood a year. Every blood drive is greatly needed.
Check out the information on qualifying and donating, then reserve a time for the next drive and bring a friend.
All UMMS/UM SJMC employees receive 1,250 Positive Points, part of our new Reward and Recognition Program, for donating.
