Urology
What is Urology?
The urologists at UM Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute evaluate and treat disorders of the kidneys, prostate, bladder, testicles and pelvic floor. They provide both medical and surgical options to patients with a variety of issues, though some of the more common problems include:
- Urinary incontinence (female and male)
- Voiding dysfunction (difficulty urinating, frequent urination, waking at night to urinate)
- Kidney & bladder stones
- Urinary tract infections
- Erectile dysfunction
- Bladder, kidney, prostate and testicular cancer
- Male infertility
Conditions We Treat
In addition to general urologic care, UM Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute's urologists specialize in neurologic disorders of the bladder. We treat urologic conditions in patients with:
- Spinal cord injuries
- Multiple sclerosis
- Strokes (CVA)
- Traumatic brain injury
- Other neurologic conditions which affect the bladder (e.g. Parkinson's, Spina Bifida)

We offer a full range of urologic services, some of which include:
- Outpatient urodynamics (specialized bladder study)
- Botox injections (bladder)
- Cystoscopy
- Suprapubic tube placement
- Reconstructive bladder surgery
- Slings (incontinence surgery)
- Laser ablation of stones
- Sacral nerve stimulation (InterStim)
- All types of peripheral nerve stimulation
We also offer general urologic procedures, which include:
- TURP (prostate resection)
- Penile prosthesis
- Urologic cancer surgery (bladder, prostate, kidney, testicle)
