We at Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital understand the financial disruption that can be caused by job loss related to the Covid-19 pandemic. The following addendum applies to our Patient Financial Assistance policy during the declared state of emergency in Maryland.

  1. POLICY Addendum During Maryland State of Emergency
    1. This policy applies to Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital ("MWPH"), Mt. Washington Pediatric Community Health Services (MWPCHS), and Mt. Washington Pediatric Community Behavioral Health Services (MWPCBHS); all referred to as "MWPH Entities." MWPH Entities are committed to providing financial assistance to children who have health care needs and are uninsured, underinsured, ineligible for a government program, or otherwise unable to pay, for medically necessary care based on their individual and family financial situation.
    2. It is the policy of MWPH to provide Financial Assistance based on indigence or high medical expenses for patients whose families meet specified financial criteria and request such assistance. The purpose of the following policy statement is to describe how applications for Financial Assistance should be made, the criteria for eligibility, and the steps for processing applications during a declared state of emergency in Maryland.
    3. During a declared state of emergency in Maryland, patients may qualify for Patient Financial Assistance by:
      1. Filling in the standard application form, without the requirement to provide detailed bank statement or pay stub information;
      2. Providing documentation of a recent layoff that reduced family income and/or resulted in the termination of the family's medical insurance coverage
    4. If a family has experienced job loss that resulted in reduced income and/or the loss of medical insurance coverage, the patient will be presumed to be eligible for full Patient Financial Assistance for the duration of the declared emergency.
    5. At the conclusion of the state of emergency, families who want to continue to qualify for patient financial assistance will be required to provide full financial information, per the hospital policy.
