Heart Transplant - UM Cardiac Xenotransplantation Program

To address the organ shortage, University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) researchers are participating in several preclinical models examining the use of genetically engineered animal organs for human transplantation.

In the Cardiac Xenotransplantation Program, world-renowned experts are studying the possibility of using genetically modified pig hearts to replace failing human hearts.
