Duty Hours for Medical Students

Medical students at the University of Maryland School of Medicine will adhere to the duty hour regulations as specified by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) for PL2 residents and above. This includes a limit of 80 hours of work per week, averaged over a four week period. Periods of duty cannot exceed 24 continuous hours, with up to 4 hours to complete effective transitions in patient care. Students must have a minimum of 8 hours off between scheduled duty periods, and must have at least 14 hours off following a 24 hour period of duty.
