Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy Fellowship
The University of Maryland School of Medicine Fellowship in Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy is dedicated to graduating physical therapists who have achieved advanced aptitude of skills, knowledge, and critical thinking in Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy (OMPT) to develop leaders in clinical practice, research, service, and patient care for the citizens of Maryland and beyond.
Our program provides comprehensive manual OMPT training orthopaedic training for conditions ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics in a collaborative, collegial, and supportive environment with physical therapists, occupational therapists, MDs, and DOs among other aspects of health care.
During our 13-month fellowship, Fellows in Training work one-on-one with our dedicated faculty members treating a very diverse patient population and diagnoses.
OMPT Fellowship Training
Throughout your training, we'll put you through a number of different scenarios to allow you a full, diverse training experience. You'll work hands-on with patients in an OMPT setting, shadow orthopedic surgeons and observe their surgeries, attend lectures, and also shadow physicians from other specialties.
Other aspects of our training program include:
- Total educational hours: 360 hours of didactic education
- Total one-on-one mentoring hours: 150
- The remainder of the time spent in patient-care clinic hours working alongside FAAOMPT-credentialed therapists
*** ABPTRFE has granted the University of Maryland School of Medicine Fellowship in Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy candidacy status. Candidacy status signifies satisfactory progress toward accreditation. Achieving candidacy status is not an indication that ABPTRFE will grant initial accreditations. Participants who graduate from a program in candidacy status are not deemed to have completed an accredited program. ***
