• UM SJMC's 6th Floor Orthopaedic Institute nursing team is the recipient of the 2017 Orthopaedic Nursing Certification Recognition Award from the National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses. This is the first time this nursing honor has been given to any hospital in Maryland.

• Cardiac Interventional Center Designation Given to St. Joseph - St. Joseph was awarded a designation of Cardiac Interventional Center by the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS). According to MIEMSS: "The designation as a "Cardiac Interventional Center" indicates that a hospital complies with State standards to receive patients transported by EMS who are experiencing the most common type of heart attack called an ST-elevation myocardial infarction, or "STEMI." A STEMI occurs when an artery that supplies blood to the heart is suddenly blocked. As a result of these designations, effective April 1, 2011, EMS providers who have identified a STEMI patient may transport those patients to the closest designated Cardiac Interventional Center, bypassing non-designated hospitals in accordance with the Maryland Medical Protocols for EMS Providers."

Maternity Services:

• 2012, St. Joseph Medical Center Vascular Laboratory was granted a three-year term of accreditation in Vascular Testing in the areas of Extracranial Cerebrovascular Testing and Peripheral Venous Testing by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC).
