Behavioral Health Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
Shore Behavioral Health’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a group-based therapy conducted at UM Shore Medical Center at Dorchester. It meets Monday through Friday, 9 am to 12 pm. The program is structured to provide a multi-disciplinary approach to mental health for those who require a higher level of care than typical outpatient therapy offers.
Participants in the Intensive Outpatient Program receive education and assistance on a variety of topics, including:
- Understanding mental illness
- Developing healthy coping mechanisms
- Working through depression
- Handling anxiety and reducing stress
- Dealing with grief and loss
- Establishing appropriate boundaries
- Repairing self-esteem
- Appreciating the mind/body connection
- Acquiring a healthier lifestyle, including more restful sleep habits
- Improving communication patterns
- Managing anger
- Addressing addictions
- Learning about medications and dealing with side effects
- Facing change with courage and enhancing the quality of life
