Volunteer with Chester River Hospital Center Auxiliary

The Chester River Hospital Center Auxiliary was founded on December 29, 1958, "to promote the advancement of all interests pertaining to the hospital, including social services and raising funds for the benefit of the hospital." Annually, the Auxiliary's volunteers give more than 8,200 hours of time and talent to the hospital for the benefit of the patients in the community.

In-House Volunteers

Auxiliary volunteers play a crucial role in the daily operation of the hospital and contribute in countless ways to assure the highest-possible satisfaction to patients and visitors. Volunteers are a resource in clinical areas, providing assistance in multiple areas. They assist nurses and other hospital staff by performing messenger duties, patient and specimen transportation, assisting with and organizing daily patient menu selections, visitor registration, and general office support in various departments.

Three shifts are available: Monday through Friday, 9am-12:30pm and 12:30pm-4pm. Weekend shifts are also available.

Gift Shop

The Gift Shop is one of the Auxiliary's main sources of raising funds. The Shop, opened in 1965, is operated and staffed by Auxiliary volunteers and offers a variety of gifts, jewelry, books, cards, seasonal decorative items and snacks. Volunteer duties include sales clerk positions, stocking shelves, general tidying, changing displays and year-end inventory.

The Gift Shop is open from 10am-4pm, Monday through Friday.

Nearly New Shop

The Nearly New Shop is the Auxiliary's second retail establishment, also managed and staffed by Auxiliary volunteers. The Shop accepts donations of and resells gently used adult clothing, shoes, accessories, household items and books, and also features a formal wear and designer clothing section. Located in downtown Chestertown at 320 High Street, the shop has been a part of the community since 1958.

Volunteers assist by sorting, tagging and displaying donated merchandise, as well as staffing the store during business hours.

The Nearly New Shop is open Monday through Friday from 10am-4pm and on Saturday from 10am-1pm.
