COVID-19 Testing

Available Coronavirus Testing
We offer coronavirus (COVID-19) testing to patients 12 months of age and older at all of our UM Urgent Care centers.
*No reservation required, walk-ins welcome.*
Covid-19 Testing
We perform send-out PCR COVID-19 tests and a Rapid Antigen COVID-19 test to detect the presence of the virus.
Serology Testing
We offer serology testing, also known as antibodies testing – a blood test that can detect COVID-19 antibodies created by a patient's immune system in response to the virus.

Who Should be Tested?
You should consider being tested if:
- You have symptoms related to COVID-19 (e.g., fever, cough, difficulty breathing).
- You have been in close contact with an individual suspected of or confirmed to have COVID-19.
- You are required by your doctor, hospital or outpatient surgical center to have COVID-19 testing prior to a planned surgery.
- You are required by your employer to have COVID-19 testing prior to beginning or returning to work.
- You are required by another entity to have COVID-19 testing – to attend school or camp or for travel/transportation requirements.
Test Results
Turnaround Time
COVID-19 rapid testing yields results within 15 minutes.
COVID-19 test PCR swab results typically take up to 2-4 days.
Please Note: COVID-19 test and turnaround times are subject to change.
Reviewing Results
Patients can access their results via LabCorp Patient. A copy of the account setup instructions is given to patients at the time of discharge or you can access them online at LabCorp.
Positive Test Result
A positive test result means it is very likely that you have COVID-19. Your healthcare provider will discuss your care with you based on your medical history, current symptoms and possible exposures. You may be asked to stay home or follow additional precautions to avoid spreading the virus to others.
Negative Test Result
A negative test result means that you likely do not have COVID-19. It does not, however, preclude a SARS-CoV-2 infection with certainty. You will still need to continue practicing good social distancing and infection prevention measures, like wearing a mask outside the home and sanitizing and washing your hands frequently.
Fees
UM Urgent Care accepts most major insurance plans. If you plan to use your health insurance for your visit, you need to bring a valid ID and your current insurance card. Please contact your insurance company before being tested to see if you will be responsible for any of the testing fees.
All self-pay patients are responsible for UM Urgent Care's standard visit services fees. Learn more about Simple Payment Options for our patients who wish to pay using cash instead of insurance.
At UM Urgent Care, all COVID-19 related patients are seen and evaluated by the provider on duty. This includes patients without symptoms, who present solely for a COVID-19 test.
Getting a Test
As the state of Maryland's capacity for conducting coronavirus testing expands, people with coronavirus symptoms and, in some cases, those without can be tested for active COVID-19 disease.
What to do if:
- You don't have a primary care doctor. You can contact your city or county health department for advice, or call the UMMS Nurse Call Line, a free 24/7 phone service to answer questions from the community about coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
- You have mild symptoms. Coronavirus can be treated at home. Stay home, contact your doctor, monitor your health and avoid transmission to the rest of your household.
- You are at risk because of your age or underlying conditions. Be sure to contact your doctor.
- You are having severe symptoms – difficulty breathing, pain or persistent pressure in your chest, or bluish lips or face. Don't waste time trying to get a test. Call 911 or go to the nearest hospital ER or urgent care center.
COVID-19 Testing Locations
You can receive a COVID-19 test at any of our UM Urgent Care locations.
UM Urgent Care centers focus on patient safety and comfort. Patients with any potential COVID-19 related symptoms are taken to a private suite upon arrival. Mandatory masking and social distancing measures are strictly followed.
