General surgeons are trained to diagnose, operate and manage post-operative conditions for a range of conditions. General surgery typically focuses on the organs and contents of the abdomen: the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland. Our surgeons also deal with diseases involving the skin, breast, soft issue and hernias.
Inpatient procedures are performed at UM Capital Region Medical Center in Largo and outpatient procedures at UM Capital Region Medical Center in Largo, UM Capital Region Surgery Center in Bowie or UM Laurel Medical Center in Laurel. Most procedures are performed using minimally invasive techniques to improve recovery times and minimize scarring. We offer consultations at our UM Capital Region Health Medical Group's offices in Bowie and National Harbor.
