UM BWMC uses Zoom as its telemedicine platform. It is a secure and confidential connection that is easy to use.

When you make a telemedicine appointment, you will receive a confirmation email with a link and a meeting ID as well as instructions on how to check in.

Please review these instructions for more details on how to connect to your video visit with your doctor.

What You Need to Have

You do not need a Zoom account for your telemedicine visit. However, to connect with your provider in a video visit, you will need:

  • Confirmation email from your a provider
  • Computer, tablet or smartphone with:
    • Internet connection
    • Camera
    • Microphone
    • Headphones or speakers
  • 9-digit Zoom meeting ID (e.g. 123-456-789), sent to you by your provider
  • Unique Zoom meeting link (e.g. https://umms.zoom.us/j/123-456-789), sent to you by your provider.

Note: You should receive both a Zoom link and a meeting ID, but you will need one or the other depending on how you connect.

What You Need to Do

  • Before your first telemedicine appointment, connect to Zoom in a test meeting to be sure your camera, sound and microphone are working. 
  • Choose a quiet, private location for your telemedicine visit and begin the connection process 5-10 minutes before your appointment.
  • Be sure to position yourself in front of the device's camera.

Note: During your appointment, if you or your provider are muted or the camera is turned off, the microphone, speaker or camera icons will be red. Just touch or click on the icons to turn on the device.

Connecting Via Computer – Download Method

If you are connecting to your telemedicine Zoom from a laptop or desktop computer, you can connect through the link sent from your doctor. This method requires a download onto your computer.

  1. Open the email invitation from your provider. Click on the Zoom link. It will look like this: https://umms.zoom.us/j/123-456-789.
  2. A browser window will open automatically and you will be asked if you want to open zoom.us. Click Allow. (If this option does not pop up automatically, check your ad blocker settings.)
  3. If your provider has not started the appointment, you will see a message appear stating, "Please wait for the host to start the meeting". Once your provider arrives, you will be prompted to click Join with Video when the new pop-up window opens.
  4. You will be asked to test your audio and microphone over the next two screens. Make sure your speaker volume is on. If you do not hear a ringtone when prompted, click No or adjust using the audio drop-down to switch speaker device until you hear it. Click Yes when you hear the replay.
  5. Likewise, you will be asked to test your microphone by speaking then listening for a replay. If you do not hear a replay, click No or adjust using the microphone drop-down to switch the microphone device until you hear it. Click Yes when you hear the replay.
  6. Click Join Computer Audio. Select option again when prompted on the next pop-up screen to fully join the test meeting with the selected microphone and speakers.
  7. You have now successfully joined your Zoom appointment!

Connecting Via Computer – Browser Method

If you cannot download Zoom, you can connect through your internet browser. The steps are:

  1. Navigate to the Zoom meeting in your internet browser https://zoom.us/join.
  2. Input your 9-digit meeting ID (e.g., 123-456-789) (found in your email from your provider) into the box and click Join.
  3. You have now successfully joined your Zoom appointment!

Connecting Via Phone or Tablet

To connect via phone or tablet, you will need to download the free Zoom Cloud Meetings application from the App Store (Apple) or Play Store (Android).

  1. Navigate to the App or Play Store on your phone or tablet. Search for "Zoom Cloud Meetings" and select Get or Install to download. Note: The app is free, but it may require password verification and say that you will "purchase" it.
  2. Open the email invitation from your provider. Click on the Zoom link. It will look like this: https://umms.zoom.us/j/123-456-789.
  3. The Zoom application will open.
  4. If your provider has not started the appointment, you will see a message appear stating, "Please wait for the host to start the meeting". Once your provider arrives, you will be prompted to enter your name. Please enter your full name.
  5. Based on your phone settings, the application may need to request access to your Camera and Microphone. Please select OK for both options, as both are required for the visit.
  6. You have now successfully joined your Zoom appointment!
