About Me
Dr. Natalie Chilaka is an orthopedic trauma surgeon. Her clinical interests include fractures and dislocations from the shoulder through the wrist and from the pelvis through the foot. She also specializes in major tendon injuries (such as those of the quadriceps, patellar and triceps tendons), nonunions, malunions, and hand conditions such as carpal tunnel and trigger finger.
Dr. Chilaka prides herself on being a part of a care team that provides comprehensive, multidisciplinary orthopedic and podiatric care in one location. She focuses on treating the whole patient, not just the fracture. "Understanding what the injury means to the patient — their fears and the impact on their employment and relationships — helps me to support them in recovering the body part and their lives," she says.
A fundamental love of anatomy is what motivated Dr. Chilaka to become an orthopedic trauma surgeon. "Orthopedic trauma surgery covers a huge expanse of anatomy," she says. She founded and runs the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center Osteoporosis Clinic, providing comprehensive bone health care for older fracture patients as well as other osteoporosis patients who come for reasons other than a fracture.
Although she is often busy raising two young girls in her personal time, Dr. Chilaka also enjoys playing tennis.
