About Me
An interventional cardiologist, Dr. Mukta Srivastava mostly sees patients in the hospital setting. Often, she treats patients who are having a heart attack or have a history of heart attack or coronary artery bypass surgery and need repeat imaging of their heart arteries. She also treats heart failure patients. She enjoys taking the time to learn about her patients’ individual goals while working with them and their families to develop patient-centered treatment plans.
Dr. Srivastava performs procedures such as percutaneous coronary intervention (minimally invasive procedure used to treat narrowed or blocked coronary arteries), hemodynamic studies (for checking your blood circulation and heart function) and implantation of temporary mechanical circulatory support devices. She also performs implantation of left atrial appendage occlusion devices (to prevent blood clots and stroke) in patients with atrial fibrillation and who have challenges with taking anticoagulants (such as blood thinners) for stroke-risk reduction. Her clinical interests include coronary artery disease and physiology, stroke-risk reduction in patients with atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat) and cardiogenic shock.
In addition to her responsibilities as an interventional cardiologist, Dr. Srivastava is director of the Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship program at University of Maryland School of Medicine, where she has the privilege of supporting the growth and career goals of future cardiologists.
