The Digestive Health Center at UM Baltimore Washington Medical Center is pleased to offer Outpatient Dietitian Services designed to empower you to take control of your nutrition.

During your one-on-one session, a registered, licensed dietitian (RD, LDN) will help you set personal goals and create an individualized plan to improve your health.

How can a registered dietitian help me?

A RD is your nutrition expert. He or she has extensive schooling in the role of nutrition in disease management and health. The dietitian will assist you in improving your eating habits, tailoring them toward your lifestyle, medical condition and food preferences. Nutrition therapy with a RD is recommended to help with:

  • Cancer
  • Celiac disease
  • COPD
  • Crohns disease
  • Diabetes (type 1 and 2)
  • Diverticulitis
  • Enteral nutrition
  • Food allergies
  • Gestational diabetes
  • Heart disease
  • High blood pressure

Do I need a physician referral?

Yes, a physician referral is necessary for all appointments. It gives the dietitian the medical information needed to plan an appropriate and individualized counseling session, and is also necessary to receive insurance reimbursement.
